Herpes

Herpes is caused by a virus known as Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). There are two types of Herpes; Herpes Genitalis and Herpes Labialis. Both can cause Herpes on the genitals.

Herpes is transmitted through intercourse and oral sex.

Herpes usually develops on the body within a week after transmission. The first sign is little red dots. These develop into fluidous cysts. The cysts pop and become sores, that dry up. 2-3 weeks later the sores will have healed.

Herpes is treatable with lotion and pills, that can be purchased at the pharmacy, but once you have contracted herpes, it is in your body forever.

It is very different how often each person has outbreaks, but they usually become rarer and less severe as time goes by.

Use of condoms can reduce the risk of genital herpes.
